On today’s show, I sat down with Marieke D’Cruz (née Guehrer). Marieke is an ex-Australian swimmer who competed for Australia at the Athens 2004 Olympics and is the former World Record Holder in the 50m butterfly. At the same time, Marieke worked for an Australian public policy think tank, The McKell Institute and now works for McKinsey and Company. In this conversation we discussed what it takes to be a world class swimmer, Marieke’s transition from sport, and why swimmers can feel like fish out of water in retirement. This led to the topic of identity reconciliation, and how important this is through any career transition. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, let’s do this!
